All welcome at Walthamstow Christmas community day
Customers and Walthamstow residents are invited to attend Transport for London's (TfL's) Christmas community day, which is being held on Sunday 18 December 2016.
Hosted by local TfL station staff and bus operators Tower Transit, CT Plus and Stagecoach in Walthamstow Town Square Park, the event will give the public an opportunity to meet the people and catch a glimpse behind the scenes of their transport network.
Also running stalls on the day will be staff from Network Rail, the charity Eat or Heat, Dial-A-Ride, London is Open, TfL's Apprenticeship Scheme and the Metropolitan Police, who will provide crime prevention advice and cycling safety tips. A London Underground display will have exhibits revealing the history of the Victoria line, which terminates at nearby Walthamstow Central station.
Stagecoach will be providing a heritage Routemaster that will double as a Santa's grotto, while at the other end of the historical scale will be one of TfL's latest buses, which is powered by wireless ZeEUS charging technology.
There will be musical performances throughout the day, as well as children's activities provided by the London Transport Museum. The local farmers market will also be open on the day.
Visitors will be able to:
- Come on board the latest electric bus
- Discover what's inside a Transport for London incident response vehicle
- See how London's iconic bus network is run behind the scenes
The community day is being held to promote closer links between customers and the staff who run London's bus service, which delivers over 6.5 million journeys every working day.
Tony Akers, TfL's Head of Bus Operations, said:
'This is a great opportunity for our customers to get a look behind the scenes and for us to explain what we do, how we do it and why we do it. Also, we can get first-hand accounts of what concerns our passengers and how we can make their experience of our bus services better.'
