London Underground has this week launched a new leaflet entitled Tube Tips for Women which provides women with helpful advice on safe travel around London.

The leaflets are now available at all Zone 1 Underground stations.

Tube Tips for Women, a leaflet produced by women for women, emphasises that the Underground is a safe, quick and reliable way to travel around the Capital.

General travelling tips provided by the leaflet include:

  • Advice for mums or mums-to-be for easy and trouble-free journeys
  • Tips on staying safe while travelling on the Underground, such as never leaving any bag unattended and reporting any suspicious or inappropriate behaviour to a member of staff
  • Recommendations on journey planning through TfL Journey Planner and Tube Guru
  • Suggestions for women having missed the last Tube on safe alternative transports options

"This leaflet is really guidance given from women to women on safe travel around the city.

  • Tube Tips for Women is available from all Zone 1 Underground stations, student unions and student unions bars in Central London, hospitals and GP surgeries
  • Over 630 British Transport Police officers patrol the stations. The network currently features 6,000 CCTV cameras. Most stations are also equipped with several customer Help points and there are emergency alarms in every train carriage
  • Three million people use the Underground on a daily basis, of which 43.5 per cent are women
