How our graduate scheme work
Your development programme as a graduate consists of up to 6 placement rotations from across the business. In every placement, you'll receive all the training needed to succeed in your role.
We understand that everyone's career aspirations are different, so every graduate's journey is unique. Our aim is to equip you with the range of skills and experience you need to be successful in your chosen career path.
What the salaries are
For our interns, the salary is £21,824. The starting salary for all our graduates is £28,500.
Plus, you'll enjoy many other benefits including:

Who can start a graduate role
Entry requirements vary depending on the scheme. Some of our schemes can accept a minimum of a 2:2 in any subject, while other schemes will have more specific criteria.
You must already hold or be on track to achieve the required degree by the time the scheme starts.
What you'll get
Qualifications vary depending on a graduate programme. You might be working towards industry recognised qualifications such as Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) and others.
You'll also get the best opportunities the industry has to offer.
In February 2022, the Times Top 100 graduate rankings conducted a survey of 12,400 final year students asking which employers offer the best opportunities for graduates. We were ranked as the top employer in our category.
Since the Times began publishing the 'Graduate Employer of Choice' rankings in 2007, TfL has won the award in the category of Transport and Logistics ten times!

What training you'll receive
We'll support your development through a wide range of on-the-job practical experiences and placements.
We'll also support your professional development through a combination of:
- Classroom-led training courses
- Online training courses
- Structured networking opportunities with scheme alumni
You'll receive one-to-one support throughout the graduate programme from your:
- Placement manager: Responsible for your day-to-day management and support with your development
- Scheme sponsor: A senior manager who acts as a technical and professional adviser and has line manager responsibility
- Buddy: Usually an apprentice or graduate who gives support to you and ensure that you feel welcomed in the organisation
- Development adviser: Supports your professional development through providing career coaching and career progression at TfL
Application process
Applications are online via our website. You'll need to answer a series of questions designed to screen your eligibility for the role.
After this, you'll have to complete two different online assessments. If you're successful, you'll take part in a virtual assessment day.

Applications for positions starting in September 2023 are closed now. But you can register your interest in future openings.
Our locations
Our roles are all based in London. Most business areas are currently combining office-based working and working from home. This may change depending on government guidelines and business needs.
Some placements may include site visits.

There's a lot of career opportunities at TfL after you finish your graduate programme. It varies depending on a scheme you enter. But we understand that everybody's career is different.
