What we're doing

We plan to install and upgrade pedestrian crossings and provide advance stop lines for cyclists at junctions along Seymour and Wigmore streets. Where space allows, we are also widening some footways in the area.

Junctions will likely be upgraded in two phases:

Phase 1

  • Seymour Street/Great Cumberland Place
  • Wigmore Street/Wimpole Street
  • Wigmore Street/Welbeck Street

Phase 2

  • Wigmore Street/Marylebone Lane
  • Wigmore Street/Mandeville Place
  • Wigmore Street/Duke Street

How your journey could be affected

Vehicle access will be maintained at all times, although lane closures will be required on the approaches to the junctions.

For the latest information on traffic conditions, see our traffic status updates page or follow @TfLTrafficNews on Twitter.

Freight, deliveries and servicing

If you make or receive deliveries in the area, consider talking to your customers and suppliers now to see if there are changes you need to make to your deliveries or collections, such as retiming to outside the busiest times. Please visit tfl.gov.uk/freight for more information.

Roads in the area will be busier than usual during construction. For the latest information on how buses are running, see our bus status updates or follow @TfLBusAlerts on Twitter.

Shops and businesses in the area will be open throughout the works, and pedestrian access will be maintained.

Cycle lanes on Seymour Street and Wigmore Street will be suspended at times during the works. Please take care while cycling and follow signage that will be in place.

Cycle Hire customers can check availability online using the live docking station map, and can follow @SantanderCycles on Twitter for the latest updates.

Taxis and minicabs

Taxis and minicabs will run as normal, but some journey times will be affected by traffic in the area - please plan your journey in advance and leave more time to travel.

For up-to-date information for the taxi and private hire industry, visit our taxis and minicabs section or follow @TfLTPH on Twitter.

Works are currently going on to convert Baker Street and Gloucester Place to two-way traffic. The Wigmore Street pedestrian improvement works are being coordinated with the Baker Street two-way scheme to minimise impacts in the area in the future.
