Lambeth North lift replacement

We are replacing both lifts at Lambeth North Tube station at the same time. The lifts fail regularly, causing travel disruption to customers, so replacing them will make them more reliable for customers. Find out more about our lift and escalator work.

Station closure

We explored the option of replacing the lifts one at a time and keeping the station open. However, leaving one lift in operation would put it under greater stress from the increased volume of customers, increasing the likelihood of it failing. This would mean more unplanned station closures and more disruption for customers.

A tight layout and a low ceiling in the lift mechanism room at Lambeth North Tube station also makes it a technical challenge to keep the station open while replacing the lifts.

The ticket machines at Lambeth North Tube station will be unavailable while the station is closed. You can find Oyster Ticket Stops nearby.
