We explored the option of replacing the lifts one at a time and keeping the station open. However, leaving one lift in operation would put it under greater stress from the increased volume of customers, increasing the likelihood of it failing. This would mean more unplanned station closures and more disruption for customers.
A tight layout and a low ceiling in the lift mechanism room at Lambeth North Tube station also makes it a technical challenge to keep the station open while replacing the lifts.

During the closure of Lambeth North Tube station, customers can use either Waterloo or Elephant & Castle stations. Both stations are served by the Bakerloo and Northern lines and the Jubilee line also serves Waterloo station.
Lambeth North Tube station is a short walk or bus journey from either Waterloo or Elephant & Castle station - signs at street level will show the way. Leaflets will also be distributed and posters displayed in advance of, and throughout, the closure showing alternative travel advice.
