We are working with the London Boroughs of Tower Hamlets and Newham to make Bow safer, more accessible and better connected for all road users.
We are continuing to develop plans for the area.
Looking at options to redesign the junction and remove the roundabout, giving pedestrians and cyclists more direct access to facilities
Investigating the removal of Bow flyover and providing extra pedestrian crossings on Bow Road and Stratford High Street
Exploring ways to improve the urban environment, reflecting the characteristics of the local area
The wider Bow area
Looking at ways to improve access from Stratford High Street and the A12 Blackwall Tunnel Northern Approach to new developments. We will consider plans to introduce new signalised crossings and extend the bus network through new communities
Investigating other ways to improve connections for cyclists and pedestrians across the A12 without any impact on traffic, such as improving existing subways and providing a new bridge for pedestrians and cyclists
We will update this page as plans develop. A consultation is planned later in 2016.
Bow Vision interim scheme
While work continues on the Bow Vision programme, we have now delivered the Bow Vision interim scheme, apart from some minor finishing works. This is making it easier for pedestrians to cross Bow interchange safely.
We installed signalised crossings on Bow Road and Stratford High Street, and introduced crossings to link Bow Road and Stratford High Street via the roundabout's central traffic island. Toucan crossings now provide a connection for cyclists between Cycle Superhighway 2 and the River Lea towpath.
Removed the existing non-signalised crossings on the A12 Blackwall Tunnel Northern Approach slip roads
Merged the traffic islands on Stratford High Street and remove the eastbound contraflow lane to create a new area of public space
Increased the length of the eastbound cycle 'early-start' facility on Bow Road to 18 metres
