A406 Neasden area

Current and upcoming works

Footway resurfacing

We are going to upgrade the footway along the A406 North Circular Road between the junction with Apsley Way and the junction with Links Road. Overnight works will start on the night of 9 January 2017 and we plan to complete them on the night of 3 February.

This work will take place between 22:00 and 05:00 each night. Between these times:

  • The nearside lanes of the A406 westbound will be closed between Staples Corner and Links Road
  • The slip road onto the A406 from Staples Corner roundabout will stay open, along with the junctions with Coles Green Road and Waterloo Road
  • There will be no access to or from the A406 westbound at Apsley Way. The junction with Links Road will also be closed for the first part of the works (until the night of 28 January) and the junction with Heather Road will be closed between the nights of 30 January and 3 February

Vehicle access to building forecourts on the A406 North Circular Road will be restricted at times during the works. Our contractor's staff will do all they can to allow access if it is needed.

Temporary traffic diversions will be clearly signed during the closures, but please plan ahead, allow more time and use alternative routes where possible. Emergency services will have access at all times.

The footway between Apsley Way and Links Road will be closed. Marshals will be on site to help and to keep pedestrian access to properties open at all times.

Two bridges on the A406 North Circular Road at Neasden are being repaired to extend their lives and ensure no major maintenance work is required for many years. Work on one bridge is now complete and work on the second will start in spring 2017.

More information on these works will be available early in 2017.

Completed works

A406 at Drury Way and A406 at Brentfield Road

Works in these areas are now complete.

We have built a new bus lane.

  • Some southbound bus routes are now 0.6 miles shorter, reducing journey times for passengers
  • We removed the need for four buses per hour to travel along the A406

We have also constructed a new left-hand slip road. It has:

  • Made it safer for pedestrians to cross the road
  • Improved traffic flows and journey times for all vehicles travelling on the main carriageway

These schemes are all part of our plan to improve London's roads.

Minimising noise and disruption

To complete the works as quickly as possible we often have to work 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

During the works at night, we use a range of measures to reduce noise, vibration and disruption, including:

  • Noise-reducing acoustic barriers where appropriate
  • Compressors and generators fitted with acoustic covers to reduce noise
  • Vehicles, plant and equipment fitted with exhaust silencers
  • Regular monitoring of dust levels
  • Water sprays to reduce airborne dust
  • Steps to ensure lights do not shine into people's homes
