    Travel during the championships

    Tube, rail and bus

If you're attending the events or travelling in east London during the championships, you're advised:
    • To plan ahead
    • To allow more time for your journey as stations close to the London Stadium will be busier than usual
    • The athletics sessions will start and end at different times. This means Tube, rail and bus journeys will be affected in different times and places during the championships

    Sunday 6 and Sunday 13 August 2017

On both days, expect road closures, busier than usual Tube and rail stations, and bus service changes in central London.

    Sunday 6 August: Marathon

Set against some of the capital's most historically-significant landmarks, the 26.2 mile marathon route will start and finish at Tower Bridge in central London.

With the Tower of London as a backdrop, the route will comprise four laps of a 10km course, heading west along Victoria Embankment towards the Houses of Parliament, then back along the River Thames to St Paul's Cathedral, and returning to the Tower of London.

View a map of the marathon route below. (Information on road closures will be available in spring 2017.)

    Sunday 13 August: Race walks

The unique Festival of Race Walks will be staged on The Mall on a 2km loop between Buckingham Palace and Trafalgar Square. The 20km races will see athletes perform 10 laps of the course, whilst the 50km race will be 25 laps of the circuit.
