The West End Project is being built by the London Borough of Camden. TfL have part-funded this scheme.

Tottenham Court Road will be switched to two-way traffic on the Easter Bank Holiday weekend (19-22 April) 2019, weather permitting.

Driving

Monday 18 March to Thursday 11 April 2019

We will be completing carriageway resurfacing works on Tottenham Court Road. Sections of Tottenham Court Road will be reduced to one lane at all times during these works. If possible, use public transport for travel to the area.

If you have to drive to the area, some side roads accessing Tottenham Court Road will be closed during the resurfacing works - check the Camden website for details.

Key changes from Easter Bank Holiday weekend (19-22 April) on Tottenham Court Road:

  • Tottenham Court Road will be switched to two-way traffic
  • There will be vehicle access restrictions on the new southbound lane
    • the southbound lane will be for buses and cyclists only at all times
  • All traffic can continue to travel northbound until the entire scheme is completed in spring 2020

Once the scheme is completed, there will be permanent restrictions. Maps on Camden's project website show these final restrictions.

From 08:00 Monday 8 April to 22:00 Thursday 11 April 2019, route 14 will not serve southbound stops on Gower Street or northbound stops on Tottenham Court Road. Route 176 towards Tottenham Court Road will be shortened and finish at stop A on Charing Cross Road.

See the signs at bus stops for more information.

From Easter Bank Holiday weekend (19-22 April)

Both northbound and southbound buses will use Tottenham Court Road. Buses will no longer run along Gower Street/Bloomsbury Street. This will be a permanent change.

Find out how your bus may be affected on our Bus status updates map.

Follow @TfLBusAlerts for news and service information.

Pedestrians

Tottenham Court Road will be switched to two-way traffic - take care crossing.

Shops and businesses in the area will be open throughout the works, and pedestrian access will be maintained.

Freight, deliveries and servicing

Loading bays will need to be suspended at times for works. These temporary changes will be clearly signed.

The project team is continuing to work with local businesses to provide advice and to ensure that you can make and receive deliveries during construction.

If you make or receive deliveries in the area, talk to your customers and suppliers now to see if there are changes you need to make to your deliveries or collections, such as moving them to outside the restricted periods. Find out more about changing your deliveries.

About the scheme

Work will be completed in spring 2020.
