Wandsworth Bridge closure
The London Borough of Wandsworth has closed the bridge for works. Find out more on the Wandsworth borough website.
During the closure, motorised vehicles (including buses and taxis) cannot cross the bridge.
People are able to walk across the bridge. If you are cycling, you can dismount and wheel your cycle across. If you are able, these are likely to be the quickest and easiest ways to cross the bridge.
Plan ahead, check your travel and allow more time for your journey.
Bus
All bus services which usually use Wandsworth Bridge are diverted or stop short of their normal destinations.
- These buses do not cross the river: 28, C3 and 295
- The quickest route across the river is to walk across the bridge and pick up onward bus routes on the other side
Route 728
An additional temporary bus route, 728, is running between Fulham Broadway and Wandsworth Town centre via Battersea Bridge every 20 minutes between 05:00 and 00:00.
This route runs every 20 minutes, 7 days a week, between the following times:
From Wandsworth - 05:20 to 00:10
- First stop: Mapleton Road, Stop T
- Last stop: Fulham Town Hall Stop T
From Fulham - 05:10 to 23:50
- First stop: Fulham Town Hall Stop S
- Last stop: Mapleton Crescent stop S
Route N28
Route N28 is diverted and crosses Battersea Bridge.
From the 24 to 28 July the N28 is stopping at Clapham Junction Station. For onward journeys get off the bus at stop M and pick up routes 37 (24 hour) and N87 from the same stop.
From 29 July to end September the N28 will stop at Wandsworth Sainsbury's.
North side
- Get your bus from Townmead Road or Wandsworth Bridge Road
South side
- Get your bus from Swandon Way or York Road
- Stops TD and TM will be closed
Driving (including deliveries)
Wandsworth Bridge is closed to all motorised traffic. If you are not travelling to the local area, you may have a quicker and easier journey using river crossings that are further away (for example, Kew Bridge or Vauxhall Bridge).
Walking
You can walk across the bridge throughout the works. A one-way system is in operation - follow the signs on the street.
Cycling
You can walk across the bridge wheeling a cycle throughout the works. This is likely to be quicker than finding an alternative route.
For journeys into central London then there is a fully segregated cycle route (CS8) starting in Wandsworth taking you towards Westminster.
Check our map of cycle routes.
Santander Cycles
You can hire a Santander Cycle to cross the river as part of your journey - there are docking stations in Wandsworth and Hammersmith and Fulham.
