Driving

From 23 April to Summer 2018

At all times

The A100 Byward Street/Tower Hill will be reduced from two lanes to one lane westbound from Tower Hill Garden to the junction with Great Tower Street.
If you are travelling westbound during morning peak times (07:00-10:00am) you are likely to experience delays of up to 10 minutes on your usual journey time. You may wish to consider travelling outside of these times or choosing a different route to avoid delays to your journey.

For eastbound traffic, provision will remain the same with a single lane remaining open.

There will be no access to Trinity Square from Byward Street/Tower Hill during this period. A signed diversion will be in place.

There will be some overnight road closures for resurfacing.

For the latest information on traffic conditions, see our traffic status updates page or follow @TfLTrafficNews on Twitter.

Buses

Bus route 15, RV1 and N15 will continue to serve Tower Hill and stop at all regular bus stops. However, delays of up to 10 minutes are expected to affect all traffic so please plan ahead and allow more time for your journey.

For the latest information on how buses are running, see our bus status updates or follow @TfLBusAlerts on Twitter.

Coaches

The lane closure will make surrounding roads busy. Contact your coach operator for details about possible changes to services, and allow plenty of time to travel.

Cycling

Access to the Cycle Superhighway will be maintained for the majority of the works, however, some closures will be needed. It will be closed temporarily near Trinity Square in early June 2018 and during some overnight closures for resurfacing. A signed diversion will be in place.

Check availability of Santander Cycles using the online docking station map, or visit our cycling section for full information on cycling in London.

Taxis and minicabs

Taxis and minicabs will run as normal, but some journey times will be affected by traffic in the area - please plan your journey in advance and leave more time to travel.

For up-to-date information for the taxi and private hire industry, visit our taxis and minicabs section or follow @TfLTPH on Twitter.

Other impacts

Why this is happening

As part of works to introduce segregated cycle track for the East West Cycle Superhighway along Byward Street/Tower Hill we signalised the junction of Byward Street/Tower Hill and Trinity Square. Initially, left and right turns into Trinity Square were restricted at the junction.

Following community feedback, in April 2016, an interim scheme at the Trinity Square junction allowed left turns into Trinity Square from the A100, Byward Street between 21:00 and 05:00.

This will now be made permanent, with the left turn permitted for all vehicles at any time. As part of the works, we will be relocating traffic islands and resurfacing the carriageway. We expect the scheme to bring about improved traffic journey times.
