rotherhithe tunnel sign showing width and height restrictions

Every day up to 6500 vehicles wider than the restrictions could be illegally entering the tunnel, putting other drivers at risk of collisions.

The safety of Londoners is our top priority and wide vehicles, generally vans or larger passenger vehicles, have been banned from the tunnel since 2012. There is clear signage on all approaches to the Rotherhithe Tunnel highlighting these restrictions. Vehicles that use the tunnel illegally risk a fine of £50 or prosecution.

Drivers restricted from using the tunnel should use Tower Bridge or the Blackwall Tunnel - both of which are outside the Congestion Charging zone.
