The ULEZ will replace the T-Charge (Emissions Surcharge) for all road users except residents registered for the Congestion Charge Resident's discount.

ULEZ launch in two phases

The ULEZ will initially operate in central London 24 hours a day, every day of the year, in the same area of central London area as the Congestion Charging zone. From 25 October 2021 the area will be expanded to the inner London area bounded by the North and South Circular roads. See a 2021 map on the ULEZ page.

Increasing the size of the ULEZ will not only help improve air quality for the 3.6 million residents living within the expanded zone, it will also help improve air quality across London as a whole.

To find out if your vehicle is affected, and for your options, please use our ULEZ vehicle checker.

Your vehicle may not meet the ULEZ standards even if it meets the current Low Emission Zone (LEZ) emissions standards.

LEZ change 2020

The most heavy-polluting vehicles including buses, coaches, lorries and other specialist vehicles will need to meet even stronger LEZ standards from 26 October 2020 London-wide.
