Central London bus changes

The changes in central London affect routes 3, 6 (24 hour), 11, 16, 23 (24 hour), 26, 59, 133, 332, 507, 521, C10, N11, N16, N26 and N32.

Some minor changes also affect the stops served by routes 17, 24, 59, 139, 176, 211, 415, N3, N53, N109 and N343 at Kennington Park Road, London Bridge, Whitehall or Waterloo. Changes were also made to routes 112, 607, E1, E2, E3, E8, E9, E10 and N7 near Ealing Broadway.

You can transfer between buses at no extra cost with the Hopper fare - unlimited bus journeys for the price of one, made within one hour of touching in.

Route 507 has been withdrawn.

Between Waterloo and Victoria via Victoria Street use newly re-routed bus 11 or existing route 211.

Between Waterloo and Victoria via Horseferry Road it may be easiest to use newly re-routed buses 3 and C10:

  • From Victoria towards Waterloo via Horseferry Road - use newly re-routed bus 3 and alight at stop NH on Horseferry Road. Wait at the same stop for newly re-routed bus C10 towards Waterloo
  • From Waterloo towards Victoria via Horseferry Road - use newly re-routed bus C10 and alight at stop NE on Horseferry Road. Wait at the same stop for newly re-routed bus 3 towards Victoria

521

Route 521 has been withdrawn.

Between Waterloo and London Bridge use newly re-routed buses 59 and 133, it may be easiest to change between buses at Holborn:

  • From Waterloo towards London Bridge use newly re-routed bus 59 and alight at stop K at Holborn Viaduct. Wait at the same stop for newly re-routed bus 133 towards Streatham
  • From London Bridge towards Waterloo use newly re-routed bus 133 and alight at stop K at Holborn station. Wait at the same stop for newly re-routed bus 59 towards Clapham Park

To or from Mansion House or Cannon Street stations use existing route 17:

  • Between Mansion House or Cannon Street and London Bridge stations use existing route 17
  • Between Mansion House or Cannon Street and Waterloo stations use route 15 and alight at stop R at Aldwych. Walk forward to stop S and use any bus except X68

16, 332, N16 and N32

Existing route 332 - between Paddington and Brent Park, Superstores - has been replaced by revised route 16.

Revised route 16 now serves all of the same stops as former route 332, and most of the same stops as existing route 16, between Paddington and Brent Park, Superstores. It does not run between Edgware Road and Victoria.

Use newly re-routed bus 6 (24 hour) instead:

  • From Brent Park beyond Edgware Road towards Victoria use revised route 16 (formerly 332) and alight at stop EC outside Edgware Road station. Wait at the same stop for newly re-routed bus 6 (24 hour) to Victoria
  • From Victoria beyond Edgware Road towards Brent Park use newly re-routed bus 6 (24 hour) and alight at stop EP at Orchardson Street. Wait at the same stop for revised route 16 (formerly 332) towards Brent Park, Superstores

Route N16 - previously running between Victoria and Edgware - has been renamed route N32 and now serves all the same stops.

Route 3 - which previously ran between Crystal Palace and Whitehall, Horse Guards - no longer serves stops between Lambeth Bridge and Whitehall, Horse Guards, including Westminster station. Instead, buses have been re-routed to Victoria, via Horseferry Road and Victoria Street.

Between Lambeth Bridge and Whitehall use existing route 87 instead. It may be easiest to change between newly re-routed bus 3 and existing route 87 at the junction of Millbank and Horseferry Road on the north side of Lambeth Bridge:

  • From Crystal Palace beyond Lambeth Bridge towards Whitehall alight newly re-routed bus 3 at stop NE on Horseferry Road. Take care when crossing the road to stop NK on Millbank for existing route 87 towards Aldwych
  • From Whitehall beyond Lambeth Bridge towards Crystal Palace alight existing route 87 at stop NB on Millbank. Take care when crossing the road to stop NH on Horseferry Road for newly re-routed bus 3 towards Crystal Palace

Route 6 (24 hour) - which previously ran between Willesden, bus garage and Aldwych - no longer serves stops between Hyde Park Corner and Aldwych. It does not serve Green Park, Piccadilly Circus, Charing Cross stations or Trafalgar Square.

Instead, buses have been re-routed to serve Victoria, via Grosvenor Place, creating a new link to Victoria station.

Between Hyde Park Corner and Aldwych use existing routes 9 or N9, or newly re-routed bus 23 (24 hour). It may be easiest to change between newly re-routed buses 6 (24 hour) and 23 (24 hour) at the same stops at Marble Arch station:

  • From Willesden beyond Hyde Park Corner towards Aldwych, before you reach Hyde Park Corner, alight newly re-routed bus 6 (24 hour) at stop R at Marble Arch station and wait at the same stop for newly re-routed bus 23 (24 hour) towards Aldwych
  • From Aldwych beyond Hyde Park Corner towards Willesden alight newly re-routed bus 23 (24 hour) at stop E at Marble Arch station and wait at the same stop for newly re-routed bus 6 (24 hour) towards Willesden, bus garage

11 and N11

Route 11 - which previously ran between Fulham Broadway and Liverpool Street - no longer serves stops between Parliament Square and Liverpool Street. Now it does not call at Trafalgar Square or Aldwych or Charing Cross, City Thameslink or Bank stations.

Instead, buses have been re-routed to serve Waterloo via Westminster Bridge, York Road and Station Approach. This provides a new link to St Thomas' Hospital.

Route N11 - which previously ran between Ealing Broadway and Liverpool Street - now no longer serves stops between Trafalgar Square and Liverpool Street. It does not call at Aldwych or City Thameslink or Bank stations. Instead, buses terminate at Whitehall, Horse Guards.

Between Parliament Square and Liverpool Street use newly re-routed buses 26 or N26 instead. It may be easiest to change between newly re-routed buses 11 or N11 and 26 or N26 at the same stops at Westminster Cathedral or Westminster City Hall:

  • From Fulham Broadway beyond Parliament Square towards Liverpool Street, before you reach Parliament Square, alight newly re-routed bus 11 or N11 at stop N at Westminster Cathedral and wait at the same stop for newly re-routed buses 26 towards Hackney Wick or N26 towards Chingford
  • From Liverpool Street beyond Parliament Square towards Fulham Broadway alight newly re-routed buses 26 or N26 at stop SB at Westminster City Hall and wait at the same stop for newly re-routed buses 11 towards Fulham Broadway or N11 towards Ealing Broadway

The frequency of route 11 has also changed:

  • Buses run every 10 minutes instead of every 12 minutes on Monday to Saturday during the daytimes
  • No changes to frequency at any other times

23

Route 23 (24 hour) - which previously ran between Westbourne Park and Hammersmith - no longer serves stops between Hyde Park Corner and Hammersmith bus station. It does not serve High Street Kensington, Kensington (Olympia) or Hammersmith stations.

Instead, buses have been re-routed to serve Aldwych via Piccadilly, Trafalgar Square and Strand. This has created new links to Green Park, Piccadilly Circus and Charing Cross stations.

Between Hyde Park Corner and Hammersmith use existing bus routes 9 or N9 instead. It may be easiest to change between newly re-routed bus 23 (24 hour) and existing routes 9 or N9 at Green Park or Hyde Park Corner:

  • From Westbourne Park beyond Hyde Park Corner towards Hammersmith use newly re-routed bus 23 (24 hour) towards Aldwych. Stay on the bus past Hyde Park Corner, and alight at stop J at Green Park station. Take care when crossing the road via the crossings to stop H for existing routes 9 or N9 back towards Hammersmith via Hyde Park Corner
  • From Hammersmith beyond Hyde Park Corner towards Westbourne Park alight existing routes 9 or N9 at stop T At Hyde Park Corner station. Take care when crossing the road in Hyde Park for stop Y. Wait here for newly re-routed bus 23 (24 hour) towards Westbourne Park, or existing routes 74, 137 or 414 for Baker Street or Marble Arch

26 and N26

Route 26 - which previously ran between Hackney Wick and Waterloo - no longer serves stops between Aldwych and Waterloo. Instead, buses have been re-routed to serve Victoria via Strand, Trafalgar Square, Whitehall and Victoria Street. This has created new links to Charing Cross, Westminster, St James's Park and Victoria stations.

  • Between Hackney Wick and Waterloo - it may be easiest to change between alternative bus routes at Aldwych
  • From Hackney Wick beyond Aldwych towards Waterloo - use newly re-routed bus 26 and alight at stop R at Aldwych. Walk forward to stop S and use any bus except X68

From Waterloo beyond Aldwych towards Hackney Wick:

  • Use existing route 76, alight at stop M at Aldwych and wait at the same stop for newly re-routed bus 26, or
  • Use existing route 341, alight at stop L at Aldwych and walk forward to stop M for newly re-routed bus 26, or
  • Use newly re-routed bus 59 or existing routes 1, 68, 168 or 188, alight at stop F at Aldwych and walk back to stop D for newly re-routed bus 26

The frequency of route 26 has also changed:

  • Buses run every 10 minutes instead of every 7-8 minutes during the day, Monday to Saturdays
  • No change to frequency at any other times

Route N26 - which previously ran between Chingford station and Trafalgar Square - has been extended to serve Victoria via Whitehall and Victoria Street. This has created new links to Westminster, St James's Park and Victoria stations.

Routes 26 and N26 are temporarily diverted because of works at Bank.

59

Route 59 - which previously ran between Streatham Hill, Telford Avenue and Euston - no longer serves stops between Holborn and Euston, including Russell Square station. Instead, buses have been re-routed to serve St Bartholomew's Hospital via Chancery Lane station, Holborn Viaduct and City Thameslink station. This has created a new link to the hospital.

Between Holborn and Euston use existing bus routes 68, 91 or 168. It may be easiest to change between newly re-routed bus 59 and existing routes 68, 91 or 168 at Holborn or Waterloo:

  • From Streatham Hill beyond Holborn to Euston - alight newly re-routed bus 59 at stop P at Holborn station. Walk back to stop N for existing routes 68, 91 or 168
  • From Euston beyond Holborn towards Streatham Hill use existing route 68 and alight at stop D at Waterloo station. For travel towards Streatham Hill, wait at the same stop for newly re-routed bus 59

Route 59 is also serving different stops at Waterloo.

133

Route 133 - which previously ran between Streatham station and Liverpool Street - no longer serves stops between Monument and Liverpool Street. Instead, buses have been re-routed to serve Holborn via Bank junction, Holborn Viaduct and High Holborn. This has created new links to Bank, St Paul's and Chancery Lane stations.

Between Monument and Liverpool Street use existing bus routes 35, 47, 149 or 388. It may be easiest to change between newly re-routed bus 133 and existing routes 35, 47, 149 or 388 at the same stops at London Bridge:

  • From Streatham station beyond Monument towards Liverpool Street use newly re-routed bus 133 and before arriving at Monument, alight at stop M on London Bridge (southside). Wait at the same stop for routes 35, 47, 149, 344 or 388
  • From Liverpool Street beyond Monument towards Streatham station use existing routes 35, 47, 149, or 388 and alight at stop P past Monument station at London Bridge (northside). Wait at the same stop for newly re-routed bus 133

Route 133 is temporarily diverted because of works at Bank.

C10

Route C10 - which previously ran between Canada Water and Victoria via Lambeth North - has been re-routed in the Waterloo area:

  • Route C10 no longer serve stops A, B, C or K near Lambeth North station on Westminster Bridge Road. Use routes 12, 148 or 453 instead
  • The route still serves stop D on Westminster Bridge Road, but only C10 buses towards Victoria will call here. Buses towards Canada Water will no longer call at this stop
  • Buses has been re-routed around Waterloo via York Road and Waterloo Road, creating a new link to Waterloo station
  • It takes about 4 or 5 minutes longer to travel between Westminster Bridge and Elephant & Castle via the new C10 route. Please allow extra time for your journey

For travel from Elephant & Castle to stops A or B near Lambeth North station:

  • Use newly re-routed bus C10 to stop Z outside London College of Communication
  • Wait at the same stop for existing routes 12, 53, 148 or 453

For travel from stops A or B near Lambeth North station towards Victoria:

  • Use existing routes 12, 148 or 453 and alight at stop D near to Westminster Bridge
  • Take care crossing the road to stop G at York Road for newly re-routed bus C10 towards Victoria

For travel to stops C or K near Lambeth North station on Westminster Bridge Road:

  • Use newly re-routed bus C10 and alight at stop F near to County Hall
  • Go to stop E at Westminster Bridge Road for existing routes 12, 148 or 453

For travel from stops C, D or K on Lambeth Bridge Road towards Canada Water:

  • Use existing routes 12, 53, 148 or 453 to stops D or E at Elephant & Castle
  • Walk back to stop C for newly re-routed bus C10 towards Canada Water

The frequency of route C10 also changed:

  • Buses run every 12 minutes instead of every 12-15 minutes early on Saturday mornings
  • Buses run every 12 minutes instead of every 15-20 minutes early on Sunday mornings
  • No changes to frequency of buses at any other times

Bank

Works at Bank are taking place until summer 2023. During this time, newly re-routed buses 26, 133 and N26 are being diverted temporarily:

  • Routes 26 towards Hackney Wick and N26 towards Chingford will be diverted via London Wall
  • Routes 26 and N26 towards Victoria will be diverted via Threadneedle Street and Cheapside
  • Route 133 towards Streatham will be diverted via Cannon Street

Waterloo

Changes affect which stops are served by routes 59, 139, 176 and 211:

  • Newly re-routed bus 59 towards St Bartholomew's Hospital - use stop J instead of stop K on Tenison Way
  • Existing route 139 towards Golders Green or existing route 176 (24 hour) towards Tottenham Court Road - use stop H instead of stop J on Tenison Way
  • Existing route 211 towards Hammersmith - use stop A instead of stop B on Upper Taxi Road, near the Victory Arch entrance to Waterloo station

Route 521 has been withdrawn - from Waterloo, use alternative routes instead:

  • For Holborn - use routes 1, 68 or 188 from stop K. Alternatively, use routes 59 or 243 from stop J
  • For Chancery Lane, Holborn Circus or City Thameslink - use route 59 from stop J
  • For St Paul's or New Change - use route 76 from stop F
  • For Mansion House or Cannon Street - use route 59 from stop J and change at Aldwych for route 15 from stop D
  • For travel to any other route 521 destinations - use route 59 from stop J on Tenison Way and alight at stop K at Holborn Viaduct. Wait at the same stop for newly re-routed bus 133 towards Streatham

London Bridge

Changes are affecting which stops are served by routes 17 and N343:

  • Existing route 17 towards Archway - use stop B on Railway Approach in the bus station instead of stop D
  • Existing route N343 towards Trafalgar Square - use stop A on Railway Approach instead of stop B

Whitehall

Changes are affecting which stops are served by routes 24 and N53. All northbound TfL London buses depart from stop A, with other types of buses or coaches continuing to use stop C.

Existing route 24 towards Hampstead Heath or existing route N53 towards Whitehall - use stop A instead of stop C at Parliament Square.

Kennington Park Road

Changes are affecting which stops are served by routes 415, N3 and N109:

  • Existing route 415 towards Old Kent Road, Tesco - buses call additionally at stop M opposite Kennington Park
  • Existing routes N109 or N3 towards Oxford Circus - buses no longer call at stop M, use stop U at Kennington Road/Kennington Post Office instead
