The interchange is also a gateway to the local area, which includes Arsenal FC and Finsbury Park, both of which are regularly used for large-scale events. The facility caters for upwards of 30 million passenger movements a year.

Interchange between mainline rail, located directly over the station, and Underground currently takes place via an internal spiral staircase. Interchange with bus takes place in three separate locations surrounding the interchange facility and the UK's largest secure cycle park is located close to the main Station Place entrance.

The Station Place entrance has a strong visual presence, acting as a local landmark and projecting a positive image of public transport. Interchange movements from Station Place to Underground and rail are clear and legible with entrances to both modes well signposted. Spatial management in the forecourt area is good, with street furniture and information displays located to the edge of movement spaces along with retail amenities. The area has good natural surveillance, is well maintained, has visible CCTV, good lighting and a good staff presence creating a positive sense of security.

Internal movements within the station and accessibility from Underground to bus are less straightforward. The internal space is formed of two tunnels in a T arrangement with each exit connecting with a bus interchange serving different destinations creating a complex decision point within the station, which can cause confusion and movement conflicts. To address this, a staffed information booth is located in the tunnel.

Interchange between Underground lines in the same direction is excellent with passengers offered a direct step-free route between adjoining platforms.

The principal entrance to the mainline rail station is from Station Place with a further connection accessed from one end of the Underground platforms. The Underground/rail connection lacks legibility and is not accessible.

The cycle park is London's biggest staffed cycle parking facility with space for 125 cycles. The cycle park is on Stroud Green Road, next to Station Place, is clearly signposted with a direct, legible route to the interchange facility. It also provides direct access to the park and the London cycle network.
