"For fans lucky enough to have tickets, it's going to be even more important than usual to plan ahead and to check before you travel to ensure that you don't miss out"

As Londoners and England fans gear up for the first of this summer's Euro 2020 matches at Wembley, TfL is advising fans with tickets for Sunday's England v Croatia to plan ahead and to check before they travel.

Planning ahead and leaving enough time to travel will help to ensure that fans arrive on time and do not miss any of the all-important match.

Sections of the transport network will be busier than they have been recently, as London hosts one of the UK's first major sporting events since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

Fans should consider walking or cycling if possible, and bicycle parking is available on street level in the north east corner of the stadium.

Fans are being advised that they should expect to queue to enter stations at Wembley for longer than usual after the match to maintain social distancing.

Should the knockout games later in the tournament go to extra time or penalties, customers are reminded that overnight services do not operate and customers should check before they travel home from the stadium.

For customers requiring accessible journeys, TfL suggests using the Jubilee or Metropolitan lines to Wembley Park.

TfL is also asking customers to continue to wear a face covering over their nose and mouth, unless exempt, and to maintain social distancing where possible on TfL services and at stations.

Face coverings must be worn for the full duration of journeys on the public transport network, including inside stations, and in taxis and private hire vehicles. Customers who do not comply could be denied travel, or receive a minimum £200 fine.

Tower Bridge will also be closed on Sunday 13 June from 06:00 for a major public art project to celebrate Euro 2020. Five locations across the city, including the bridge, will be pasted in almost 3,000 black and white portrait photographs in celebration of the tournament.

People travelling by bus, car, taxi or private hire in the area are advised to plan ahead and find alternative routes. The bridge will reopen by 01:00 on Monday 14 June and bus routes will return to their normal line of service.

Glynn Barton, TfL's Director of Network Management, said: 'Euro 2020 will be a hugely exciting time for London as the capital welcomes one of the most prestigious football tournaments in the world over the summer.

'For fans lucky enough to have tickets, it's going to be even more important than usual to plan ahead and to check before you travel to ensure that you don't miss out.'

The latest service information will be available online and through TfL travel tools including the free TfL Go app. TfL Go enables customers to access live updates and travel times for every station and bus stop, as well as information on the quieter times to travel and directions for walking and cycling.

Pay as you go on contactless and Oyster allows people heading to watch the games to travel flexibly at quieter times by simply touching in and out and only paying for the journeys they make.

This reduces the need to queue or buy tickets at a station. Pay as you go fares are also capped so customers don't have to buy a Travelcard in advance.

More than 1,000 Dettol hand sanitisers are installed across the network, and 200 UV light devices are continually sanitising escalator handrails.
