How to pay

Single journeys

You can use pay as you go (contactless and Oyster card) for travel on some National Rail services outside London. To find the single fare for a journey use our single fare finder.

Some National Rail services only accept contactless payment.

Pay as you go caps and Travelcards

You can use contactless (card or device) or Oyster card to pay as you go for travel to and from:

  • Broxbourne, Rye House, St. Margarets, Ware and Hertford East
  • Cuffley, Bayford and Hertford North
  • Epsom
  • Gatwick Airport
  • Merstham, Redhill, Earlswood, Salfords and Horley
  • Ockendon, Chafford Hundred, Purfleet and Grays
  • Radlett and Potters Bar

You can only use contactless (card or device) to pay as you go for travel to and from:

  • Brookmans Park, Welham Green, Hatfield and Welwyn Garden City
  • Iver, Langley, Slough, Burnham, Taplow, Maidenhead, Twyford and Reading
  • St Albans City, Harpenden and Luton Airport Parkway

Daily and weekly caps apply to journeys to and from these stations.

Travelcards

You can add a Travelcard season ticket to your Oyster card for travel beyond Zone 9, to and from Broxbourne, Rye House, St. Margarets, Ware and Hertford East.

How much does it cost?

5-10

With a 5-10 Zip Oyster photocard children can travel free on journeys to and from:

  • Broxbourne, Hertford East, Ware, St Margarets and Rye House
  • Ockendon, Chafford Hundred, Purfleet and Grays
  • Shenfield
  • Watford Junction

Without a 5-10 Zip Oyster photocard, up to four under 11s can travel free on journeys to and from:

  • Watford Junction
  • Stations between Iver and Reading

If travelling with an adult using:
