Bus Oyster roundel logo

Buses

Pay as you go for £1.50 with contactless or Oyster on all London buses that display the red roundel shown here.

Touch your contactless card/device or Oyster card on the yellow card reader when you board the bus. Don't touch out when you get off.

You can travel on all buses in London that display the red roundel (illustrated above) if you have a:

  • Travelcard or Bus & Tram Pass on your Oyster card
  • Paper Day Travelcard
  • One Day Bus & Tram Pass

You can't use cash to pay for your bus fare.

Trams

Pay as you go for £1.50 with contactless or Oyster on all trams in London.

Paper single tickets are available from all ticket machines at tram stops for £2.60.

You can travel on all trams if you have a:

  • Travelcard on your Oyster card that includes Zone 3, 4, 5 or 6
  • Paper Day Travelcard that includes Zone 3, 4, 5 or 6
  • Bus & Tram Pass on your Oyster card
  • One Day Bus & Tram Pass

Touch your contactless card/device or Oyster card on the yellow card reader on the platform at the start of your journey before boarding a tram. Do not touch out at the end of your journey, except at Wimbledon where you must touch out at the ticket gates when leaving the station.

Both pay as you go and paper single tickets cover one transfer made between trams, or between trams and connecting bus routes 64, 130, 314, 353, 359, 433 and 464 (made within 70 minutes of touching in to pay as you go at the start of your journey, or within 90 minutes of buying a paper single ticket).

Hopper fare

Two bus or tram journeys for the price of one.

Make a journey using pay as you go (contactless or Oyster) on a bus or tram, and you can now make a second bus or tram journey for free within one hour of touching in on the first bus or tram.

You must touch in using the same card on the second bus or tram. The free fare will then be applied automatically.

Hopper fares apply to adult and discounted rate pay as you go journeys.

A Hopper fare will not apply if:

  • You make a journey on Tube, DLR, London Overground, TfL Rail, Emirates Air Line, River Bus or National Rail services between the first and second bus or tram journey
  • Your Oyster card has a negative pay as you go balance after the first journey. If you clear the negative balance within one hour of touching in, you can still make the second journey for free
  • You use an Oyster card to change from a tram to a bus at Wimbledon station. For these journeys, an automatic refund for the second fare will be paid to your Oyster card
