Research reports about the Superloop express bus services
Request ID: FOI-4655-2324 Date published: 15 April 2024
You asked
Hello TfL
This is a follow-up to my previous request, in which you already released the document about route numbering for the Superloop.
https://tfl.gov.uk/corporate/transparency/freedom-of-information/foi-request-detail?referenceId=FOI-4361-2324
In the answer to question 4, you stated that the research shows that longer routes mean more unreliability.
Can you publish the report in relation to the answer to the previous FOI request?
Can you publish all the research reports about the Superloop by 2CV and other organisations?
Thanks
We answered
TfL Ref: FOI-4655-2324
Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on14 March 2024 asking for information about Superloop bus services. Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require. Specifically you asked:
In the answer to question 4, you stated that the research shows that longer routes mean more unreliability.
Can you publish the report in relation to the answer to the previous FOI request?”
Please see the attached graph which shows an assessment of bus route length versus the Excess Wait Time (EWT) metric for Period 9 of FY 2023/24 which indicates that there is roughly 10% more unreliability as measured by EWT for every extension of a route by 5 kilometres. There are several factors that would affect route reliability, including but not limited to the location(s) served and their prevailing traffic conditions, and the presence of bus priority along the corridors served.
Please note that Route 217 and high-frequency night routes are excluded. This is due to route 217 having a much higher than expected EWT during Period 9 2023/24 which resulted in its exclusion as an outlier, as well as the three high-frequency night routes (N15, N25 and N29) which operate in very different conditions during the night hours compared to the day network.
“Can you publish all the research reports about the Superloop by 2CV and other organisations?”
Please see 2CV reports attached.
In accordance with TfL’s obligations under Data Protection legislation, some personal data has been withheld, as required by section 40(2) of the FOI Act. Disclosure of this personal data would be a breach of the legislation, specifically the first principle of Article 5 of the UK General Data Protection Regulation which requires all processing of personal data to be fair and lawful. It would not be fair to disclose this personal information when the individuals have no expectation it would be disclosed and TfL has not satisfied one of the conditions which would make the processing ‘fair’.
This exemption to the right of access to information is an absolute exemption and not subject to an assessment of whether the public interest favours use of the exemption.
