How much did the 'hold on' bus announcements (and subsequent revisions) cost
Request ID: FOI-4348-1718
Date published: 26 February 2018
You asked
Please could you supply the costs (in numbers) for the introduction of the new "please hold on while the bus is moving" announcements on all TFL buses.
I would like the data for as far back as this has been in planning/consideration. Not just for 2018.
Can it please include:
> How much £ the consultation cost to come up with the idea
> How much £ the implementation (or new software/recordings) cost
> How much £ the subsequent revisions cost - the message has changed since the beginning of Jan
> How many TFL employees were involved in the consultation process
> Whether this idea was devised by a contractor or TFL
Thanks

As part of our day to day business, we routinely review the nature and causes of injuries across the Transport for London (TfL) network, challenge ourselves to generate ideas for further measures that we can implement to improve our safety performance and then assign the relevant people in the business to take these items forward. The introduction of the new announcements arose as part of this process and was delivered as part of the normal day to day duties of individuals within TfL.
I can advise that there were no additional costs associated with the implementation of the ‘Please hold on. The bus is about to move' announcement. Additionally, there was no requirement for a consultation as we create a range of different announcements using existing technology and resources.
This was a trial conducted to find out whether an announcement, such as ‘Please hold on. The bus is about to move', helps reduce on-board customer injuries, particularly from trips and falls. The trial finished on 9 February 2018, and we will be looking at whether the trial has been effective.
