FOI request detail

Reinstalling bus stop

Request ID: FOI-3696-2324
Date published: 26 January 2024

You asked

Please can you confirm when the bus stop on Bishopsgate, close to the junction with Leadenhall St - serving buses going towards London Bridge Station will be reinstated - it was removed whilst 8 Bishopsgate was being built. Please can you also tell me how long the developer of 8 Bishopsgate has a licence to remove the bus stop - I ask this because he is no longer using the road space outside his site and the stop could be reinstated now. Thanks

We answered

TfL Ref: FOI-3696-2324

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 17th January 2024 asking for information about the southbound bus stop on Bishopsgate, close to the junction with Leadenhall St.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.

Specifically you asked:

Please can you confirm when the bus stop on Bishopsgate, close to the junction with Leadenhall St - serving buses going towards London Bridge Station will be reinstated - it was removed whilst 8 Bishopsgate was being built.  Please can you also tell me how long the developer of 8 Bishopsgate has a licence to remove the bus stop”.

I can confirm that we hold the information you require.

There is no “licence” to close a bus stop. Rather, a developer has to go through the “S278” process if any changes to the public highway or assets are being made. Official guidance regarding the S278 process can be seen below:

https://tfl.gov.uk/info-for/urban-planning-and-construction/transport-assessment-guide/highway-works

The southbound bus stop outside 8 Bishopsgate is currently suspended due to ongoing building work. We are actively collaborating with the developer to reinstate this stop as soon as practicably possible. I am afraid that there is no exact date as yet as to when the stop will be re-opened. The timeline for reinstatement depends on the developer's programme and the completion of the footway work by the developer.

If this is not the information you are looking for please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely,
