TfL Ref: 3536-1920
Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 15 February 2020 asking for information about Liveable Streets Tower Hamlets.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require. Your questions and our replies are as follows:
- I have been informed that TFL has given money to Tower Hamlets Council for Liveable Streets. Can you tell me how much money has Tower Hamlets been given?
We have reserved a maximum of £800k for the borough’s Liveable Streets in Tower Hamlets for the financial year 2019/20 as part of their Local Implementation Plan funding. There have been no claims against this funding at the time of providing this response. However, payment for the Tower Hamlets’ Liveable Streets will be made in arrears like with any other LIP projects, once confirmation for the work completed is provided. The value of work done submitted through the borough portal by Tower Hamlets is currently equal to the reserved amount over this period.
- Can I have a copy of the contract and terms of the funding?
We do not hold a specified ‘contract’ as financial assistance to Tower Hamlets Council is provided in accordance to section 159 of the Greater London Authority (GLA) Act 1999 using a formula that was agreed with London Councils and the London Technical Advisory Group (LoTAG) in 2010. Funding is based on Tower Hamlet’s Local Implementation Plan (LIP), a statutory document prepared under section 145 of the GLA Act 1999. This details the adequacy of the Council’s proposals for implementing the Mayor’s Transport Strategy in Tower Hamlets. Tower Hamlets LIP was approved by the Mayor of Tower Hamlets in October 2018 following a statutory consultation between November and December 2018. Section 151 states that a borough council ‘shall implement all the proposals’ contained in its LIP. The GLA Act 1999, Tower Hamlet’s LIP3, as well as information about our LIP funding can be accessed online. Please note in accordance with section 21 of the FOI Act, we are not obliged to supply you with copies of information if it is already accessible to you elsewhere.
- Also do you have any monitoring reports about Liveable Streets in Tower Hamlets?
We do not hold any monitoring reports available for work carried out over the financial period 2019/20. You may wish to request these directly from Tower Hamlets Council:
