You asked

Follow-up to FOI-3144-2324: Thank you. I would like to reframe my question to just include the first part. Please can you tell me how many bus lanes have been removed on roads run/controlled by TfL in each of the following years: 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023.

We answered

TfL Ref: FOI-3528-2324

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 3rd January 2024 asking for information about bus lane removals.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.

Specifically you asked the following, further to case reference FOI-3144-2324:

Please can you tell me how many bus lanes have been removed on roads run/controlled by TfL in each of the following years: 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023.”

I can confirm that TfL holds the requested information. However, I am afraid that to answer your question exactly as asked would still take us over the 18 hour costs limit as set out under section 12 of the Freedom of Information Act. This is because the information has not been collated before, and to do so would require a line by line comparison of datasets to establish exactly where and when lanes have been lost, which could only be achieved at disproportionate cost.

In order to provide help and assistance as to how you can bring your request within the costs limit I have been liaising with relevant colleagues to ascertain exactly what we do hold that could be supplied without triggering the costs exemption. I can confirm that we do hold some related information. This comprises a spreadsheet that shows the bus lanes on the Transport for London Road Network in September 2018, November 2020, July 2021 and  November 2023. The spreadsheet shows the break down by year, detailing their length (in metres) and the roads they fall on, sourced by monitoring the London Gazette. If this is information that would be of value to you please confirm and we will log the request and process it accordingly.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely,
