proposed junction changes at Nightingale Road

You asked

Please send me the plans for the proposed junction changes at Nightingale Road, will the public be consulted? Why is SCOOT still not repaired in this location? Enfield Council paid for SCOOT traffic lights which are adaptive to demand vs old fashioned lights that are on fixed timers. We believe that it is not possible to properly assess the impact of more buses using bus stop LB without SCOOT being in place because junction saturation is key in this location, please confirm that you agree. Please also advise the full list of traffic lights in Enfield where SCOOT is broken. The traffic light and bus impact assessments all along Cycle Enfield were predicated on SCOOT compensating for other causes for reduction in junction capacity. Continued failure to repair SCOOT at this location gives rise to fear that there is a systematic issue with traffic lights throughout the Borough that have been "upgraded". It seems that this is an issue that has been placed in the too difficult to deal with box. I hope that my fears are unfounded, but whilst the traffic lights are broken, we are experiencing detrimental air quality and bus route impacts. Please note that the bus stop is heavily used. The other day I got on at the end of the peak and there were over 20 people there waiting for a bus. I am also seeing more people getting off the stop northbound, because presumably less people are using their cars or other means of transport, which was to be predicted. I am also seeing my neighbours who are disabled using the stop frequently. The elderly find the walk to Orchard road too far. I have to say, with the 2,000 new homes being built in Ponders End we are already finding that the 279 and 349 are insufficient. The 279 is often full by the time it reaches Ponders End and people are frequently being left behind at bus stops between Edmonton Green and Ponders End. Cuts to the bus network in the mid-1990's when the 259 and 149 were curtailed to Edmonton Green, when the new 349 effectively re-distributed bus resources to south of Edmonton Green will have to be reversed shortly or the bus network north of Edmonton Green will experience full breakdown. Despite the cycle lanes, bus services continue to take the vast bulk of journeys and this will always be the case.

Please send me the plans for the proposed junction changes at Nightingale Road

We do not yet have a design showing the proposed junction changes at Nightingale Road. This is currently being worked on by the London Borough of Enfield and its contractors.

Will the public be consulted?

This minor change to the junction layout is necessary to improve the safety and efficiency of the junction. No public consultation is planned.

Why is SCOOT still not repaired in this location?

SCOOT has been installed at the 32/021 Nightingale Road junction but is not yet operational due to a separate fault which means the junction is unable to run UTC SCOOT safely. The fault will be repaired as part of the work to change the layout of the junction so that we can carry out both works at the same time.

Please also advise the full list of traffic lights in Enfield where SCOOT is broken.

There are 10 faulty SCOOT detectors in the London Borough of Enfield out of 203 detectors.

The faulty detectors are as follows:

5  faulty detectors 32/016 - HIGH STREET PONDERS END - A110 SOUTHBURY RD - A110 NAGS HEAD RD

2  faulty detectors 32/007 - A406 (T) NORTH CIRCULAR ROAD - A406 (T) BOWES ROAD - A105 GREEN LANES

2  faulty detectors 32/018 - HERTFORD ROAD - BOUNCES ROAD - CROYLAND ROAD

1  faulty detector   32/023 - THE TOWN BY SYDNEY ROAD
