Cycle Maps
Request ID: FOI-3215-1819
Date published: 14 March 2019
You asked
You used to produce, and send to addresses, for free, some cycle maps. This was a paper map, typical leaflet size when folded, which unfolded in to a large street map showing cycle superhighways and paths, on both sides. You did a "Cycling in Central London" guide, and a "Local Cycling Guide 2" through to 12, for different areas of London. My personal copies are dated 2015.
It appears this has been discontinued. Searches on google and your website, as well as manually looking for links, I cannot seem to find any way to reorder updated paper maps. The link on the back of the paper maps to tfl.gov.uk/cycleguides also goes to a not found error page.
Could you kindly confirm:
1) When TfL removed the ability to order these maps from the website
2) The reason why they were removed
3) The average cost of providing that service - for both printing and distribution/posting - aka how much money you have savedb by discontinuing this service
4) Were the maps produced by an external company or internally?
5) Finally, are the plans for this functionality to return in any way?
We answered
TfL Ref: FOI-3215-1819
Thank you for your email received by Transport for London (TfL) on 25 February 2019, asking for information about cycle maps.
Question 3 in your request, regarding cost, has been processed in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and TfL’s information access policy. The rest of your request doesn’t constitute an FOI request and have been passed to TfL’s Customer Services.
I can confirm we do hold the information you require. We had a budget of £400k per annum to produce Cycle Guides. By discontinuing the product we have saved £400,000 per year.
If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for some reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.
Yours sincerely
