Our Ref:         FOI-3139-2324

Thank you for your request received on 22 November 2023 asking for information about the Lambeth Bridge improvements.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Environmental Information Regulations (EIR) and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold the information you require.

Please find attached the data for the 36 months prior to the end of September 2021 for the junction of Millbank with Lambeth Bridge.

Looking at 4,821 junctions in London that are recorded as junctions in our collisions stats database (Collstats), this junction (Lambeth Bridge northern junction) has 21 pedal cycle collisions (all severities) for 36 months up to the end of September 2021.

If the Collstats nodes are ranked by pedal cycle collisions (all severities) this junction ranks top of the list.

This data and ranking changes regularly, depending on the number of collisions that occur during a particular period. However this data is taken from a point in time, 36 months to the end of September 2021.

Lambeth Bridge northern junction is one of the Mayor’s 73 Safer Junctions. More information on this can be found here: https://tfl.gov.uk/info-for/media/press-releases/2017/april/new-roads-targeted-in-updated-safer-junctions-programme

This programme forms part of the Vision Zero approach as outlined in the Mayor’s Transport Strategy (MTS). Lambeth Bridge northern junction was identified as part of the Safer Junctions programme in 2017 following analysis of 36 months of collision data up to end of June 2017 on the TfL road network. This programme aims to target the 73 junctions with the poorest safety records so that they can be targeted for improvement works. At this time there were 43 collisions, resulting in 34 cycle casualties.
