TfL Refs: FOI-3123-1819 and FOI-3125-1819
Thank you for your requests of 18th February 2019 asking for information about the 398 and H17 bus routes.
Your requests have been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require. Specifically you asked:
“I would like to know how much lost mileage has been incurred for routes 398 & H17?
In relation to lost mileage in routes 398 & H17 operated by London United; since January 2016 to date can you state how much has London United lost in fines from TFL for routes 398 & H17. Can you please state the amount for each subsequent year?”
The answer to your first question can be found in the attached spreadhseets (going back to January 2016, showing actual miles lost and the % of scheduled mileage lost).
In relation to your second question, bus operators are not “fined” for non-operation of mileage. Rather, there is an annual contract price and an annual scheduled mileage included in the route agreement. In the event the operator does not provide the full service, the payment they receive will be based on the actual level of service provided. For information, TfL plans to publish the contract documents in the next month or so, which will be available on the Contracts Finder Website here:
