TfL Ref: 2986-2122

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 30 March 2022 asking for information about the construction of Cycleway 18.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can confirm that we hold the information you require. You asked: I wish to obtain information regarding the construction of Cycleway 18.  I am aware, following the response from TfL Ref: 2382-2122, that Cycleway 18 is funded. The current planned dates of construction of the final scheme are from 28th March 2022 till approx. 6th May 2022, subject to progress of contractors on site.

Three schemes have been completed on the section of route within Bromley:

  • Kangley Bridge Road (off road shared cycleway / footway)

  • River Pool path – widening of existing shared path, resurfacing and removal of barriers to cycling at the junction with Lennard Road

  • Kings Hall Road – installation of parallel pedestrian / cycling zebra crossing with widening of footways on the approaches for shared use

The remaining works on Lennard Road & Aldersmead Road will provide a parallel pedestrian / cycling zebra crossing of Lennard Road and 2 way off road cycle tracks on Lennard Road to the junction with Aldersmead Road.  This will provide an alternative route for cyclists during hours of darkness.

In total this will form a 2km section of cycle route between Kent House station and Lower Sydenham station.

Wayfinding is currently under design with an expectation that this would be installed by summer 2022.
