TfL Ref: FOI-2983-2223

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 13th February 2023 asking for information about the ULEZ scheme.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.

Specifically you asked:

Could you advise where the monies raised from the ulez charge have gone
The roads are still full of potholes
Or is this money used to prop up tfl
I do not use buses or the tube so why should I be charged for something I don’t use”.

I can confirm that we hold the information you require.

Note that the purpose of the ULEZ scheme is to improve air quality in London by deterring the most polluting vehicles from driving in the zone, and thereby reduce levels of pollutants that have been proven to damage human health through conditions such as asthma and other respiratory illnesses. All money received from Road User Charging schemes - including from ULEZ - must be used to facilitate the implementation of the Mayor’s Transport Strategy, and are thus reinvested in public transport spending. This requirement is set out in paragraph 16, Schedule 23, of Greater London Authority Act 1999.

If this is not the information you are looking for please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely,
