TfL Ref: 2946-2223

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 9 February 2023 asking for information about Train Manager’s overtime.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can confirm that we hold the information you require. You asked: Please provide a breakdown of each London Underground trains depot overtime cost for Trains Managers for the current financial year to date and also the previous financial year. If possible also please show the highest cost for overtime by reference to the highest claiming TM at each depot (I do not require the name of the TM).

Please see attached the overtime payment amounts per depot as requested, for anyone in a Train Manager job* during the fiscal years 2022 and 2023 to date (April 2021 to March 2022, and April 2022 to February 2023 respectively). The payments relate to those made for the time period, so exclude amounts paid in the time period for overtime worked outside the time period (e.g. payments in arrears). The two year overall time frame is taken into account, so payments in 2023 for 2022 are aligned to 2022.  The first table is total payments per depot, the second is the maximum amount received by a single individual per depot.

*This includes those who may be on secondment to those roles.

TfL relies on its workforce to help ensure that journeys across all forms of transport can happen reliably and safely. In some roles, we use overtime to ensure that we can flexibly respond to changing demands. Use of a limited amount of overtime helps us to deliver this as efficiently as possible. During the pandemic, keeping the Tube network running for key workers was a priority. Our ability to maintain even a reduced service was greatly impacted by the pandemic and members of staff having to isolate as well as a limited ability to recruit and train new staff. Overtime was used to keep our services running safely and reliably.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely
