This is really helpful and extremely encouraging. It actually boosts my mood as I saw a few people not paying one day and started to feel quite resentful.
I think non payment on buses is much higher? I don't use buses so much but when I get on a bus with entrance in the middle of the bus most people don't tap. I always do ( theatrically) to make a point.

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 1 February 2019 asking for information about fare evasion rates on buses.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require.
The current network wide rate for bus fare evasion is 1.7%.
TfL monitors the rates of fare evasion on the bus network through an independent survey, conducted by a third party contractor.
The most recent quarterly independent Greater London Bus Passenger Survey, shows the overall rate for fare evasion on the network as 1.7% (twelve month rolling average including New Route Masters (NRMs)).
Bus Revenue Protection Inspectors follow intelligence-led deployment processes and focus on reducing revenue loss on the network.
