List of journies excluded from £1.50 fare for off peak travel between zones 2-6

Request ID: FOI-2883-1819
Date published: 25 February 2019

You asked

Please provide a detailed list of journies excluded from £1.50 fare for off peak travel between zones 2-6 along with detailed explanations as to the criteria for excluding them and the formulation/basis or logic used to excluded them. Your website states some journies are charged as travelling via zone 1 irrespective of travel not occuring via zone 1. Example, you allow £1.50 fares off peak between burnt oak and Barkingside via northern line to Camden Town/Camden Rd overground to Stratford then central line to Barkingside yet you exclude burnt oak to Vauxhall via Camden Town/Camden Rd, overground to Clapham junction then to Clapham high st then Clapham North to Vauxhall via Stockwell which excludes zone 1 travel.

We answered

TfL Ref: 2883-1819

Thank you for your emails received by us on 27 January and 2 February 2019 asking for information about pay as you go (PAYG) off-peak travel fares.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. You asked for:

Whilst we do not actively exclude PAYG journeys from £1.50 off-peak fares, many journeys that are possible with PAYG are set at higher values. This is an integral part of a PAYG system which includes non-TfL modes (where fares are set by Train Operating Companies and are therefore outside of the Mayor and Transport for London’s control) as well as TfL services for which we have an obligation to the Department for Transport not to undermine National Rail charging scales.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to produce the above requested list of fares that are not available, since the PAYG database system is not designed in a manner that is conducive for such a search and therefore we do not hold this information.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely
