Dear

TfL Ref: FOI-2826-1718

Thank you for your email received by us on 08 January 2018 asking for information about passenger data for 100 bus route.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require. You asked:

In terms of passenger usage we collect ticket machine data when people tap in when they board the bus; undertake loading surveys at specific bus stops and undertake origin-destination surveys. Together these tell us if usage is going up or down; what loadings are at specific locations and where people travel from and to.

Attached are the passenger usage numbers used to inform the scheme to reduce the frequency of route 100. The data used is ticket machine data from 2012 week 13 (i.e 31 March 2012) through to 2017 week 12 (i.e. 31 March 2017). The data provides a daily average over each year for each day type (weekday, Saturdays & Sundays).

This shows usage in excess of 7,000 passenger trips on a weekday up to 2015. During 2015 this decreased to 5,300 and in 2016 to 4,500. Route 100 was cut back to the Museum of London on 8 April 2017 (2017 week 14). Usage had therefore declined prior to the curtailment.

The frequency was reduced on 04 November 2017 (2017 week 44). Presently we only have data up until the end of the year (2017 week 52). Therefore the sample size is much smaller and includes Christmas when travel patterns are markedly different. However that shows usage to be 2,900 passenger trips per weekday.
