Can you please detail costs incurred for advertising on local media such as billbards / LBC for TFL.

Thank you for your requests received by Transport for London (TfL) on 25th March 2021 asking for information about TfL advertising.
Your requests have been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.

“Can you detail on the advertising budget for TFL 2020/2021.”
In 2020/21 TfL’s total advertising budget was £16,578,935. This covered the total amount spent on paid for media and content production across channels including posters, radio, television and 3rd party social media. It included all our transport and public health support in response to the Covid-19 pandemic during 2020/21 such as the need to wear face coverings, hand washing, social distancing, travelling at quiet times as well our programmes to encourage more active travel, safety on London’s roads and raising awareness of plans to expand the Ultra Low Emission Zone later this year.

Between April 2020 and March 2021, TfL spent a total of £5,991,124.15 on media. This is itemised by channel below:
This includes paid search to help customers find the relevant information on the TfL website when using search engines such as Google £1,043,241.73
Posters / billboards £860,998.60
Social e.g. Facebook and Twitter £145,027.92
Video on Demand £77,854.48
