FOI request detail

Questions about new charge on diesel cars.

Request ID: FOI-2678-1617
Date published: 12 July 2017

You asked

1. Can you provide me with the research which shows that charging 10 pounds will significantly lower pollution levels in central London. 2. Is it going to be a trial period. 3. How long will it be before you can determine if pollution levels have dropped. 4. By what scientific process will you be assessing the drops in pollution. 5. If it is determined that there is no drop in pollution in the center of London will you revoke the Taxi on older cars? 6. Given that this Tax on older cars will hit the poorest of society who can't afford to buy a newer car or can't get the finance what do you say to those people who just see this as a squeeze on the working classes? 7. What is the amount of money likely to be raised.

We answered

Thank you for your correspondence.

The Freedom of Information Act gives a right to individuals to access recorded information held by a public authority at the time the request is received. The Information Commissioner has published guidance on your rights under the Freedom of Information Act, which includes the four bullet points below:

•You can ask for any information you think a public authority may hold. The right only covers recorded information which includes information held on computers, in emails and in printed or handwritten documents as well as images, video and audio recordings.

•You should identify the information you want as clearly as possible.

•Your request can be in the form of a question, rather than a request for specific documents, but the authority does not have to answer your question if this would mean creating new information or giving an opinion or judgment that is not already recorded.

•Some information may not be given to you because it is exempt, for example because it would unfairly reveal personal details about somebody else.

We have reviewed your correspondence, and although it has been addressed to the FOI team, there is not a sufficiently clear description of the recorded information you want to access. If you want to make a request to access recorded information, please describe the information you require.

I have passed your query onto our Customer Service team and they will contact you directly in due course. If you would like to follow up your query please contact them at [email protected].

In the meantime, if you have any queries or would like to discuss your request, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours sincerely
