Thank you for your emails received by us on 7 December 2017 asking for information about taxi and private hire vehicle testing.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our Information Access Policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require. You asked for the following:

What is the single and total cost of retests for vehicle licensing for Taxis?
The unit cost for a taxi vehicle re-test is £6.66.
For our current financial year-to-date, from April to November 2017 (inclusive), the total direct cost of taxi vehicle licensing re-tests is £17,915.40.

What is the single and total cost of retests for vehicle licensing for Private hire?
The unit cost for a private hire vehicle re-test is £6.66.
For our current financial year-to-date, from April to November 2017 (inclusive), the total direct cost of private hire vehicle licensing re-tests is £75,024.90.

The direct costs of vehicle retests are as detailed above. Transport for London also pay NSL fixed costs that under the contract, we do not require them to split out by activity and which we are therefore not able to assign specifically to vehicle re-tests.
