Request ID: FOI-2558-2223 Date published: 08 February 2023
You asked
How much is it going to cost to purchase, set up & monitor the cameras, issue fines etc. ? How much will be raised from fines ? Is it self financing or will have to be subsidised ? Who pays for the subsidy ? Where can I access the results of the feasibility study ? Was there a feasibility study ? One of the 'facts' that has been supplied is that there are more deaths from pollution in the expansion area. Surely the population of this area is far greater than the original ULEZ area ?? Hence more deaths perhaps ?!
We answered
TfL Ref: FOI-2558-2223 Thank you for your request received by us on 6 January 2023, asking for information about the ULEZ scheme implemented in October 2021 and the proposed expansion in August 2023. Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require. You specifically asked:

We expect to generate £126m of net enforcement income from the expanded zone in the first full financial year 24/25.
The expansion of the ULEZ is not about making money, but about improving air quality and the health of Londoners. The income from ULEZ is used to fund schemes set out in the Mayor’s Air Quality Strategy. Further information about the air quality schemes being delivered by TfL can be found in our published budgets and business plans, which are available on our website at https://tfl.gov.uk/corporate/publications-and-reports/business-plan.

We publish documents which provide information on our proposals to help tackle air quality, that can be found via the following link;
