FOI request detail

Data on Regenerative braking Efficiency

Request ID: FOI-2552-2425
Date published: 05 December 2024

You asked

I am currently conducting research on the efficiency benefits of regenerative braking systems in electric rail transit. I am particularly interested in understanding the energy savings, cost reductions, and environmental impact that have been achieved through the implementation of regenerative braking on your trains. If possible, I would greatly appreciate access to any relevant data or reports that detail: • Energy consumption before and after the implementation of regenerative braking. • Metrics such as energy savings percentages, cost reductions, and carbon emissions reduction. • Operational variables like regeneration rates, train speeds, stop frequency, and route characteristics.

TfL Ref: FOI-2552-2425

Thank you for your request which we received on 11 November 2024, asking for information about regenerative braking systems in electric rail transit.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require.

Please find the attached report which should provide you with the information you are looking for. However, some information, specifically sections 4 and 5, is not pertinent to your request and is out of date, therefore I have redacted it.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely
