TfL Ref: 2535-2324

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 14 October 2023 asking for information about South Kenton station.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require. You asked: Please tell me the exact date that you stopped staffing at South Kenton & the reasons for this, & this does not mean the odd member of staff popping in now & then. Also, when will the staff return full-time?

We advised staff that we would stop staffing South Kenton on 1 September 2023 due to the significant water ingress in the staff accommodation areas.

At the time, we deployed staff during peak hours to maintain visibility, support customers, service ticketing machines and maintain security checks.

On 22 September, due to further deterioration and increased risk in the staff accommodation from continued water ingress and ceiling failures, only a visual check could be undertaken without entering. Therefore, as staff no longer had a place of safety the presence in the AM and PM peaks ceased, ticket machines were changed to card only, however staff continue to undertake security checks.

We continue to work with Network Rail colleagues to ensure the area is made watertight as a matter of priority, so that the ceilings can be taken down and reinstated and the remedial works for redecoration and new flooring can be completed. We do not yet have a timeframe for when the staff will be able to return. The station is still safe to use for customers and the above refers specifically to the staff facilities not the customer facing areas.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.
