You asked

Dear Transport for London, Hi there. A good mate of mine (his initials are DWW if that helps to find the email) made an FOI request to you a few months back asking for a copy of the onboard automated announcements for the Jubilee and Northern and Piccadilly lines stocks (1973/1995/1996). These announcements are produced by Ketech (previously known as Ditra) who also produce the London Overground ones (onboard announcements and station announcements) that you often send out. They are not produced by Global Services Limited which means that the commercial interest exception does not apply. However you told him that you were unable to send them as they were not in a format that could be easily retrieved and sent. I am also very interested in receiving these automated announcements as well (for my personal use and interest only) so i would like to know: • Can you please provide details of exactly how they are stored and why they are difficult to retrieve and send? Do you not hold any sound files of them? Would they not be stored on your computers somewhere? • Do you hold any software or programs to retrieve these announcements so you can send them by post or even better by an attachment to this email? • Is there any other way i could receive a copy? For example could i arrange come to one of your depots or offices to pick up a copy of them?

We answered

FOI Request – FOI-2381-1819

Thank you for your email asking for Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly lines stock announcements.

Your request has been processed in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and TfL’s information access policy. I can confirm we do hold the information you require.

Please find the enclosed CD containing Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly line announcements for your perusal. You will note the Piccadilly line announcements are supplied as PCC files which may need specialist software to play them. This format is the only version we currently have available.

Please also note that while the Jubilee and Piccadilly announcements are recorded as full statements specifically for each station, Northern line announcements are recorded as segmented phrases joined into full sentences by the train management system (TMS).

While access to these announcements has been provided to you under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, you are not granted any rights to any of the intellectual property that exists in it or granted any permission to make secondary uses of it. TfL owns all intellectual property (including, without limitation, copyright) in the material supplied and will defend such rights.

If you wish to make any secondary use of the material provided, you must first obtain the consent of TfL (which may be withheld) and, if consent is granted, a fee may be charged, in accordance with the terms of the Reuse of Public Sector Information Regulations 2005.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for some reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the enclosed information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely
