We answered

TfL Ref: FOI-2369-2122

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 10th January 2022 asking for information about the use of mobile phones by bus operators.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.

Specifically you asked:

This is a direct question to TFL with regards to GAL Camberwell/Waterloo and what Is your policy towards Bus Operators, having mobiles fitted in their busses for sighing in and operational use that does not state when and when not to use.”

I am afraid that there is little we can usefully add to the previous response under case reference 2264-1920. As stated in that answer, TfL’s policy is that:

No driver should use an electronic device (including a mobile phone) while driving or in charge of a vehicle”.

Driving while using a mobile phone is a criminal offence for which all drivers can be prosecuted.

As you will be aware, buses in London are operated by private companies under contract with TfL. The equipment that a bus operator chooses to provide to their drivers, and the guidance they provide for the use of such equipment, is a matter for those companies, taking into their account legal requirements.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely,
