We answered

TfL Ref: 2244-1920

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 25 October 2019 asking for information about contact information for bus drivers who want to report violence at work.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require.  You asked for: a copy of the latest letter or any media for bus operators to advise bus drivers who to contact in an event of violence at work.

We have not provided any additional information to bus staff other than the information that appears on page 129 of the Big Red Book which informs as to what a bus driver should do in the event of such an incident.

In the first instance, bus operators should contact the police in an event of violence at work by reporting the incident on 101 or 999 in the event of an emergency, they should then follow their Company’s assault process. Bus operators and drivers can contact the Workplace Support Team (WST) by email at [email protected] which is actively monitored and this should be done after the Police have been notified of the incident. The previous telephone number given is no longer to be used. The WST also carry out visits to bus operator garages to give advice to drivers and operational managers on what to do in the event of a verbal, physical or spitting assault, and explain the support available while evidence is gathered and a prosecution is prepared.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely
