Frequency reduction on route 125

Request ID: FOI-2193-1718
Date published: 15 December 2017

You asked

In January 2017, the frequency of route 125 was temporarily reduced during Cycle Enfield works which took the normal Winchmore Hill stand out of action, buses having to continue to Hedge Lane in Palmers Green to turn. Buses have not had to do this since April/May 2017 and the section of Green Lanes used by the 125 has not been significantly affected by Cycle Enfield works since but the "temporary" reduction in frequency remains in place. Please send me any documents or e-mails which discuss or explain the decision not to reinstate the normal 10 minute daytime frequency when the relevant works ceased. Also any documents which link this to the proposal to reduce the frequency of the route permanently (presumably to free resources for extension to Colindale, though the Mayor's draft transport strategy implies that such improvements would be resourced by reducing central area services, not other suburban ones).

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 7 November 2017 asking for information about the frequency of bus route 125. I am sorry for the delay in replying.

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold the information you require.

The mitigation in the form of 2 minute widened schedules on route 125 was approved at the Bus Services Meeting (BSM) 497 until 31st December 2017. Although the widening was introduced primarily to take account of the extension of the route to Hedge Lane, the widened schedules were retained due to associated roadworks, such as those on Green Lanes and the likelihood of increased traffic congestion in the area.

The relevant section from the meetings minutes stated:

4.i        Enfield mini-Holland (A1010 south) and Ponders End urban realm – routes 102, 121, 125, 144,             149, 191, 217,           231, 259, 279, 307, 313, 329, 349, 377, 491, W6 and W8

Significant delays are anticipated during mini-Holland works on the A1010 south, Ponders End High Street and Hertford Road to Edmonton Green Station.  Prior to this, urban realm works will start in Ponders End in March 2017.  It is proposed to: introduce roadworks schedules on routes 102, 121, 125, 144, 191, 217, 231, 259, 279, 307, 313, 349, 491, W6 and W8 as mitigation, continue the existing mitigation on routes 125 and 329 (approved at BSM 491) and temporarily divert route 377 whilst works are in Lincoln Road.  The meeting APPROVED all of the above from 1 March 2017 until 31 December 2017.
