Nominee Passes
Request ID: FOI-2180-1819
Date published: 10 January 2019
You asked
I'd like to know the cost of TFL's 'nominee' travel passes over the last five years, divided by financial year.
(By 'nominee' pass, I am referring to the reward scheme which offers free travel for a "nominated partner/family member on the TfL network.")
Can you include for each of the past five financial years (2013-14, 14-15, 15-16, 16-17, 2017-18) :
- How many people have these nominee passes
- How many individual journeys were taken with the nominee passes
- How much money those journeys came to

Thank you for your email received by Transport for London (TfL) on 20 November 2018. Please accept my apologies for the delay.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm we hold some of the information you require. You asked:

Please see the information for 2017 and 2018 in the table below. Our system only holds current data for 2018 and we do not hold data for the previous years.
As we responded to a similar FOI request last year, we are also able to provide figures for 2017.

You will note the number of nominee passes for Rail staff increased, this is due to the recruitment of staff by MTR Crossrail.
- How many individual journeys were taken with the nominee passes
We do not hold data on journeys made using Oyster cards for longer than eight weeks and therefore we cannot provide the information requested.
- How much money those journeys came to
There is no cost to TfL because the number of journeys made is a tiny proportion of the 13m journeys made every day on TfL-run transport, meaning no additional services need to be operated.
All TfL employees and their nominees are expected to act as ambassadors for TfL, helping ensure the security of the system and helping assist our customers where necessary.
The retired nominee pass is eligible to members of TfL staff who have 20 years of service or more and who are over the age of 50.
