Dear Sir/Madam, Can you clarify how many modules are tested for on the new computer based topographical skills test? Also how many marks per module and what each module is based on. The old paper based test had 5 modules which where clearly defined on the tfl website. Thank you

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 19 November 2018 asking for information about Topographical skills computer tests.

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold the information you require.

Our topographical assessment consists of four modules, these consist of:

Index questions: A total of 10 marks are available. Candidates are required to identify the page number and grid reference of a point of interest.

Map-reading questions: A total of 11 marks are available. This section assesses a candidate’s ability to use different maps within an atlas.

Route questions: A total of 75 marks are available. Candidates are required to plot the most direct route between two points.

Compass direction questions: A total of 4 marks are available. Candidates are required to answer directional questions based on an image provided.
