LU Managerial Appointments

Request ID: FOI-2144-2021
Date published: 09 February 2021

You asked

Revised request following on from FOI-1850-2021: Can I ask the same question please, but can I have it apply to only 2016, (instead of each year from 2016-2020 inclusive) please? Would this bring it within the time limitations? How many successful candidates were new appointees to an LUL Operational Environment managerial role. This would mean for example, a) for internal candidates (i.e. promotion), they were not already working in a managerial capacity within LUL’s Operational Environment. But for b) external candidates, as clearly they weren’t even working within LUL’s Operational Environment, it is irrelevant what job they were doing prior. And lastly c) there shouldn’t be a need to ‘review [the] entire record’ each individual successfully appointed, as it’s only the job immediately prior to them taking up a post that counts (if internal), as clarified, this obviously doesn’t apply to external candidates.

Our Ref:         FOI-2144-2021

Thank you for your revised request received on 25 January 2021 asking for information about London Underground Operational Environment managerial appointments.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm we do hold the information you require.

Please find the requested information in the table below:

Calendar Year (2016) Incumbents New Starters Total
Total Appointments 50 13 63
Of which Promotions 18 0 18

Fiscal Year (2016/17) Incumbents New Starters Total
Total Appointments 40 14 54
Of which Promotions 14 0 14

Please note that the information above relates to those positions in London Underground that map to the following Band 3 and above equivalent roles:

• Ops Managers (OpsMgr)
• Managers (MGR)
• Business Managers (BM)
• General Managers (GM) and
• Directors (Dir)

Please note this mapping is based on what information we have available to us at this time. We have included information on permanent roles with a start date between 01/01/2016 to 31/03/2017 (covering both financial and calendar years) excluding any contractor appointments. We have not included any appointments whereby a position may have been a secondment posting as these are temporary and the person will return to their substantive post which may be at a lower grade. For this approach a promotion is considered a step up in the above structure e.g. BM to GM and so on.

If this is not the information you are looking for please feel free to contact me.

If you are considering submitting a further FOI request please think carefully about whether the request is essential at this current time, as answering FOI requests will require the use of limited resources and the attention of staff who could be supporting other essential activity. Where requests are made, please note that our response time may be impacted by the current situation.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely
