We answered

Our Ref:         FOI-2088-1920

Thank you for your request received on 13 October 2019 asking for information about sexual assaults on the London Underground.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm we hold some of the information you require.

The safety of all our passengers is a priority for us. With the police, we launched the Report It to Stop It Campaign, which aims to encourage anyone who experiences unwanted sexual behaviour on public transport to come forward. More information can be found on our website:

The Central line is the second busiest line on the Tube network with 49 stations and over 280m passenger journeys each year and its trains are amongst the oldest.

The Central line is a priority for the BTP’s plain clothes and uniformed officers dealing with sexual offences. A major £350m programme of work to upgrade Central line trains will get underway next year and this will include installing CCTV on the line. There are 3,000 police and police community support officers dedicated to keeping customers and staff safe.

You asked:

Can you please inform me on which London Underground line and London Underground station has the most cases of sexual assault? I would like the information from the year before CCTV was installed on the London Underground, 5 years ago (2014) , last year (2018) and this year as well.

BTP crime data, held by TfL, shows that for 2018/19 and 2019/20 (April to June 2019), the line with the highest number of reported sexual offences was the Central Line, there were 253 and 56 reports respectively.

For 2018/19 the station with the most recorded incidents was Oxford Circus (16). For 2019/20 (April to June 2019) there have been three recorded offences at each of the following stations: Bank, East Finchley, Finsbury Park, Fulham Broadway, and Victoria.

We do not hold the requested information for 2014/15, or earlier years. Please contact the British Transport Police (BTP) directly for this information:
