Date published: 03 October 2024

You asked

On how many occasions have TFL made refunds to people who have already purchased a train ticket ( held in their phone wallet), but TFL then debit a different card for a second payment. e.g. ticket bought on Amex, but charged again to a different Debit/Credit Card.

We answered

Our ref: FOI-1977-2425

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 19 September 2024 asking for information about ticket refunds.

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy.

I can confirm that we do not hold the information you require.

Whilst we know the number of people who have presented a mobile wallet containing a contactless token to our readers, we do not know how many of them also had a QR code ticket loaded into the mobile wallet.

However, train operators have tried to minimise the risk of this by having the QR code reader physically separated from the Oyster and contactless reader.

If you are not satisfied with this response please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely,
