We answered
TfL Ref: 1966-2223
Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 10 November 2022 asking for information about monthly/quarterly journey data across Transport for London’s services according to ticket type.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require. You asked for:
monthly/quarterly data from 2015 to the most recent date available on:
- total journeys made across TfL in that period - journeys made using contactless payments - journeys made using oyster cards - journeys made using paper tickets
Please see the attached spreadsheet providing the requested data for the above periods. Please also note that whilst journeys made on London Buses and London Underground are available by ticket type, statistics for other modes are based on either automatic passenger counts or load weight to determine passenger journey data, which does not distinguish between ticket type.
Bus and Tube journeys are given by the financial year accounting periods going back to 2014/15. They are classified by contactless pay as you go (PAYG), Oyster (inclusive of PAYG, Oyster seasons – such as Oyster Travelcards or Bus & Tramlink Passes issued for seven days or longer, Freedom Passes and free child travel on London Buses), plus magnetic/paper tickets. For completeness, we have also provided total journeys made on other TfL modes.
If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.
Yours sincerely
