Bus Stop Letters not used in bus route web page

Request ID: FOI-1896-2425
Date published: 07 October 2024

You asked

Hello, can you please tell me why bus stops in the bus route web pages do not always show the bus stop number? For example Green Park/Constitution Hill is bus stop E, but in the following page a generic bus roundel is used instead of the letter - https://tfl.gov.uk/bus/route/38 Does the generic roundel have a specific meaning in this context? Thank you.

We answered

Our ref: FOI-1896-2425

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 12 September 2024 asking for information about bus stop letters.

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy.

I can confirm that we do hold the information you require. You asked:

A small number of stops are affected by stop letter data not been transmitted from source systems correctly. This is a known issue and is in the process of being resolved. However, the current incident may mean it takes some time for the changes to reach the website.

In some cases, letters have been added to stops without informing the Journey Planner webpage team straightway. When these are detected, they are being changed, but subject to delay in the same way as point 1.

If you are not satisfied with this response please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely,
